About US
Our Community Needs Uganda (OCONE) is a community-based organization dedicated to alleviating poverty, suffering, and injustice in Bukedea District, Uganda. Since 2010, we have been working with women, youth, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, providing access to education, healthcare, food security, clean water, and economic empowerment.
Our work is guided by compassion, love, and the desire to uplift the most vulnerable members of our society.
Word from the Executive Director
Dear Friends, Partners, and Well-Wishers,
I warmly welcome you to Our Community Needs Uganda (OCONE), a community-driven organization dedicated to bringing hope, dignity, and transformation to the most vulnerable in Bukedea District, Uganda.
Since our founding in 2010, we have witnessed the struggles of children lacking education, families without shelter, communities suffering from water scarcity, and persons with disabilities facing daily challenges. These realities have fueled our passion and commitment to stand in the gap, restore hope, and create opportunities for a brighter future.
Through our collective efforts, we have been able to provide bicycles for students and families, pay school fees for children in need, construct boreholes for clean water, distribute food to the hungry, and support persons with disabilities with mobility aids. But our journey is far from over—there is still so much more to be done.

PROGRAMS
🎓 Education Support
Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. However, many children in Bukedea District struggle to stay in school due to financial hardships, lack of materials, and long travel distances.
🚴 Bicycle Distribution
In rural Uganda, children often walk long distances—sometimes over 10 kilometers—to reach school, leading to fatigue, absenteeism, and poor performance. Families also struggle with mobility for essential activities like fetching water, accessing healthcare, and reaching markets.
🏠 Shelter & Housing
Having a safe and dignified home is a fundamental human right. However, many elderly people, persons with disabilities, and struggling families in Bukedea District live in unsafe, dilapidated, or non-existent shelters.
💧 Clean Water & Sanitation
Access to clean water is a matter of life and death. Many rural communities in Bukedea District rely on unsafe water sources, leading to preventable diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid.
🍚 Food & Nutrition Support
Malnutrition and hunger are daily struggles for many families, especially orphans, elderly persons, and single mothers who cannot afford regular meals. Children suffer the most, affecting their growth, health, and education.
♿ Disability Support
Persons with disabilities face discrimination, social exclusion, and limited access to essential services. Many struggle with mobility, education, and employment due to lack of support and assistive devices.

Our mission is to empower vulnerable individuals and families in Bukedea District by providing education, shelter, clean water, food security, mobility support, and economic opportunities. We strive to create sustainable solutions that uplift communities and restore dignity to those in need.

OCONE Self-Help Project
At Our Community Needs Uganda (OCONE), we believe in sustainability and empowering communities to become self-reliant. Our Self-Help Project is designed to create income-generating activities that support our programs while providing skills and employment opportunities to the people of Bukedea District.
🌿 Why the Self-Help Project?
Many charitable initiatives depend on donor funding, which can be unpredictable. To ensure long-term sustainability, we have established community-based projects that generate income while addressing the pressing needs of the people we serve. These initiatives not only provide financial support for OCONE but also equip individuals with skills to improve their livelihoods.
